Weekly gas price update

Gas Price Update — Week of June 15, 2026

News Update June 15, 2026 3 min read

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline stands at $4.065 this week. That figure marks a continued decline from recent highs and offers some financial relief for drivers who have been absorbing elevated fuel costs throughout much of the year. For a typical driver filling a 15-gallon tank, the current average translates to roughly $60.98 per fill-up, down noticeably from what many paid just a month ago.

Prices dropped nearly ten cents from last week and have fallen more than 46 cents compared to this time last month. The downward trend reflects a combination of factors, including lower crude oil prices, seasonal demand shifts as summer driving activity slows, and refinery output that has kept supply relatively stable. Analysts point to softening global demand expectations and easing tensions in some energy markets as additional contributors to the recent slide.

The gap between the cheapest and most expensive states remains significant. California leads the nation at $5.741 per gallon, followed by Hawaii at $5.563 and Washington at $5.513. Drivers in those states pay nearly double what their counterparts in the cheapest markets are spending. Indiana currently offers the lowest statewide average at $3.342, with Texas close behind at $3.507 and Oklahoma at $3.542. Regional refinery access, state fuel taxes, and local blending requirements largely account for the persistent spread.

Looking ahead to next week, the direction of crude oil prices will be the primary factor to watch. Any significant shifts in global supply news, hurricane activity in the Gulf of Mexico, or unexpected changes in refinery operations could push prices in either direction. If current conditions hold steady, modest additional declines at the pump remain possible, though the pace of the drop may slow as prices approach levels where further decreases tend to level off.
